SPECIAL
CROSSBOW PERMIT
Hunters
are prohibited by law from using crossbows to hunt in Alabama, except
permanently disabled Alabama residents meeting certain legal requirements
as specified in Act 91-210 State of Alabama may hunt all legal game
with crossbows meeting legal requirements. To obtain your Special Crossbow
Permit, you must complete the application, have the Guide to Evaluation
of Permanent Impairment Form and the Physician's Certification completed
and signed by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State
of Alabama, notarized, and send it to: Special Permits, Law Enforcement
Section, Game & Fish Division, Alabama Dept. of Conservation, 64 N.
Union St., Montgomery, AL 36130. Allow several days for processing and
return of the approved permit. Incomplete applications cannot be processed
and will be returned.
A medical
doctor must certify your disability as being 80% permanent impairment
of one hand or arm or that you have to use either a wheelchair, two
crutches, two leg braces, or two leg leg prosthesis to ambulate at all
times. These are the only conditions that state law accepts as a criteria
for issuance of a Special Crossbow Permit. Call (334) 242-3467 to receive

PHYSICALLY-CHALLENGED
HUNTING AREAS
The following
areas are hereby designated and established as "Physically-Challenged
Disabled Hunting Areas":
- Marengo
Physically Disabled Hunting Area
- Charles
A. Farquhar State Cattle Ranch
Individuals
must follow the listed rules to participate in the scheduled handicapped
deer hunts on the AREAS.
- Each
participant must submit, on a Dept. form, an application to participate
in the hunt. The application will include a doctor's statement certifying
the handicap. The Dept. will review the application and notify each
participant if they are approved for the hunt.
- Each
participant must successfully complete a hunter education course recognized
by the Game & Fish Division of the Alabama Dept. of Conservation &
Natural Resources and show proof of graduation on the date of the
hunt.
- Each
participant must provide any assistants that are required. Only the
handicapped individual will be eligible to hunt.
- Each
participant and each assistant will be required to wear hunter orange
while hunting, as required by state regulation.
- All
license requirements and other rules and regulations to hunt on an
AREA are in effect.
- Handicapped
is defined as an individual who is permanently physically disabled
by one or more of the following:
- Has
a permanent physical disability, is unable to ambulate and requires
a wheelchair, walker, one long leg brace or two short leg braces,
external prosthesis, below knee or above, two canes or two crutches
for mobility.
- Has
complete paralysis of one arm or loss of one arm at or above the
elbow.
- Has
a permanent physical disability for which they are considered
"totally" disabled under guidelines established by the Veterans'
Administration and/or the U.S. Social Security Administration.
